Hello from Destin, Florida!

Ever since I was little, my family and I would spend spring break in Destin. Located in the panhandle of Florida, Destin is a very popular location for spring-breakers. From relaxing out on the beach all day to bike rides through town, there is something for everyone to do at any time of day.

My grandmother moved to Florida a few years after I was born, because of this we rarely get to see her. so, Every spring break we spend a week or so with her down in Florida. She hates missing important holidays so we get to open Christmas presents and sometimes even birthday presents in April. She always has something fun planned for my family and I that we wouldn't be able to do back home. Each year, as my siblings and I get older, we get to try more exciting things. Our most recent trip last year was my favorite so far.

I always look forward to flying instead of driving to Florida. A lot of people get a afraid to fly, but I enjoy it more because it only take a few hours versus the 22 hours would take to drive. It always depends on seat availability and prices if we are going to fly. When we have to take a car, everything gets shoved in and I always end up sitting in the middle between my siblings. There's only so much to do to keep yourself entertained in a car for that long. Last year we were able to fly thankfully.

Florida wasn't super warm last year in April like it typically is because of all the winter storms occurring in the Midwest. It was sunny most days but the temperature was around high 60s low 70s and even cooler at night. We didn't spend a whole lot of time relaxing at the beach, but instead, we tried other activities like paddle-boarding, parasailing, dolphin tours, and a movie under the stars.

One of the most exciting activities we did was go parasailing. My mom was really worried when my dad, siblings, and I told her that we wanted to try it, but she agreed to let us. It was a really windy day and we went out on a small boat. Our instructor was even hesitant to let us go because of the wind. Eventually, the wind died down and we were able to get strapped in to the harness. We went two at a time and sat at the back of the boat. When the parachute was fully open my sister and I were being pulled off the boat deck. Within a few seconds we were soaring higher and higher into the air. The boat beneath us got smaller and smaller. The view from that high up was amazing. It was a little scary but definitely an awesome experience.

If you ever get the chance to travel to Florida and aren't afraid of flying, I definitely recommend checking out Destin. There are numerous seafood restaurants and different activities to do there that you couldn't do in Peoria.
